Sixth Grader Ryan Williams took first place in the 2020 Lake Tahoe School GeoBee contest and will head to Las Vegas on March 27 to compete for the title of 2020 Nevada State Champion. Williams will face 58 fourth- through eighth-grade students, including a strong showing from Clark County; he’s one of only 19 competitors who hails from northern and rural Nevada.
Williams’ favorite school subject is …. Geography!
The Nevada GeoBee Champion will compete for the national title in Washington, DC in May.
Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic GeoBee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world, and increase public awareness about geography. Students in fourth through eighth grades compete for a chance to win college scholarships and the glory of being the National Geographic GeoBee Champion.
