Last Tuesday marked Lake Tahoe School’s inaugural Giving Tuesday Winter Market, a community event to kick off the Holiday Season with a focus on giving back to the local community.

As guests entered Duffield Hall, they were instantly enveloped in the warm embrace of community spirit. Local vendors showcased their unique creations, from cozy winter apparel and scented candles to skis and delightful gifts. Shoppers could pick up colorful handmade ornaments, crafted by students in the Lake Tahoe School MakerSpace class, as well as postcards featuring the beauty of Lake Tahoe in photographs taken by the middle school photography students.

Gift baskets, brimming with goodies generously donated for the raffle by Lake Tahoe School parents for each class, added an element of excitement and anticipation. Not only were attendees eagerly waiting to see if they were a lucky winner, but the basket that attracted the most raffle tickets would win a prize for the associated class. The three most popular baskets were: in 3rd place, the 8th grade class with their gambling-themed basket overflowing with scratchers; in 2nd place, the 2nd grade class with a food and wine-themed basket full of gift cards to local restaurants and bottles of wine; and the most popular basket, in first place, the Kindergarten’s camping-themed basket that used a new Yeti cooler as their basket and even included a year pass to the National Parks of America.

The true spirit of the evening shone through in the unwavering generosity of Lake Tahoe School’s community. Guests embraced the opportunity to give back, making heartfelt contributions to the Sierra Community House food drive and selecting an ornament from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Sierra giving tree, giving them the opportunity to fulfill a child’s Christmas wish. The Winter Market served as a powerful reminder of what the holiday season is all about: coming together with family and friends, as well as the transformative power of generosity.
